‘Sculptural family of towers’ approved in Brisbane

Brisbane council has approved a multi-building development which will sit above the Lutwyche busway station and include a “paddock to plate” food market.

Designed by Conrad Gargett, the Lamington Markets development at 612 Lutwyche Road will comprise two 12-storey residential towers with more than 134 apartments along with the 4,500 square metre indoor market hall, a rooftop urban farm, a craft brewery, boutique cinemas, restaurants, cafes and health centres. There will also be a 10,000 square metre retail precinct.

The market hall is inspired by other markets including the Borough Market in London’s Southwark, Adelaide’s central markerts and Brisbane’s former wet markets.

Conrad Gargett described the development as “sculptural family of towers” that “creates an impression of a cohesive neighbourhood within the skyline.”

Developer Marketplace Developments first submitted the application in January 2020. It was approved on 21 July.
